Born in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zemira Maslesa has lived and worked in the USA since 1996. After graduating with Double Master of Music Degree in Piano Performance and Music Composition and theory at University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV), she continued to work as Adjunct Piano Faculty for School of Music at UNLV.
Zemira has performed in numerous concerts, including the International Horn Society Convention in Las Vegas, and the grand opening of Old Bridge in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, organized at the Pavarotti Music Center in Mostar, which was broadcasted by Spanish National Television. Zemira performed a world premiere of “Pajarillo” by American-Ukrainian composer, Virko Baley. She also recorded Ravel's composition “Ondine” for the movie “Night Guards” by renowned award-winning Bosnian script writer and movie director, Namik Kabil, which premiered at Venice Film Festival in 2008. She performed at First American Cultural Festival in Bosnia and Herzegovina organized by Embassy of United States in Sarajevo in 2009.
Her music compositions had their world premieres by famous Zagreb Soloists and “WAITING and SILENCE” has been included in their regular repertoire.
Zemira Maslesa with her sister Zumreta Zumi Maslesa pioneered cultural and educational renaissance of classical music in postwar Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Through dedication, commitment, and hard work two sisters Maslesa’s “vision and perseverance transformed the classical music landscape, creating a vibrant ecosystem where none existed… masterclasses, music camps, and concerts … nurtured talent and fostered a love for music.” They both are Founders and Directors of Bosnia International Music Festival (BIMF) since 2005, the first international festival of classical music in Bosnia and Herzegovina after the war. Its 12th birthday season in 2016. was with celebration of unity and respect for women and womanhood under campaign “One Heart”. Campaign “One Heart” was celebrated also by signed Treaty with various embassies in Bosnia and Herzegovina and dedication to building musical bridges between cultures and nations.
Success and pure intention that gave birth to BIMF led to have it declared an honorable status of an “official cultural manifestation of the importance for City of Sarajevo” by decision of Sarajevo City Council and Mayor of Sarajevo in 2010.
Zemira also established and judged 1st world composition competition in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as unique program for film music named "Chopin Project", hosting Oscar award winning American composer, John Corigliano.
